BATH — A tractor-trailer truck that was too big to fit under the railroad overpass on Old Brunswick Road, hit and became lodged under the bridge this morning.

Bath police Cpl. Andrew Booth said at around 10:45 a.m. today, a tractor-trailer truck traveling east driven by Taras Korpalo, 58, of Ontario, struck the bridge. The signs approaching the bridge warn of the 11-foot, 8-inch clearance and the truck was 13 feet high, Booth said. It was not a case of speed but rather the driver misjudging the bridge height, he said.

To get the truck out from under the bridge, air was let out of the tires.

A trooper with the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement troop also responded to assist with the investigation. The bridge was not damaged, Booth said. No charges were issued and no one was hurt.
