PORTLAND (AP) — A Maine man charged with kidnapping a man who was selling a car and stashing him in the car’s trunk during a trip to Delaware has pleaded not guilty.
Law enforcement authorities say 19-year-old Alexander Filatov of Gorham was trying to sell his 2004 BMW on Craigslist when he met a potential buyer who ordered him into the car’s trunk. He was freed in Delaware and his alleged abductor was arrested May 7 in North Carolina.
The Portland Press Herald says 29-year-old Travis Landry of Surry pleaded not guilty on Monday.
Filatov told the FBI he thought Landry was joking when he asked him to see if he could fit in the trunk. Then he saw a gun, and feared for his life.
