READING, Pa. — Tyson Gillies delivered a walk-off RBI single with one out in the 10th inning, leading the Reading Fightin Phils (30-40) to a 9-8 Eastern League win over the Portland Sea Dogs (36-34) on Wednesday night at First Energy Stadium.
Portland surrendered an 8-2 lead, and lost its fifth straight extra-inning game.
Reading’s bullpen tossed 7.1 scoreless innings on four hits and eight strikeouts. Luis Garcia (2-1) worked the 10th for the win. Miguel Celestino (1-5) suffered the loss for Portland, giving up five hits and three runs over 1.1 innings pitched.
Anthony Hewitt initiated the rally with one out in the 10th, drawing a walk. Sebastian Valle reached on an infield single and Gillies singled up the middle for the game-winner.
Portland’s Anthony Ranaudo pitched six strong innings on six hits, four runs (three earned) on two walks and six strikeouts.
Jim Murphy (4-for-4, two home runs, four RBIs) gave Reading a quick lead with a two-run homer in the first inning off Ranaudo. Murphy added a solo-homer in the fourth, and leads the team with 13 homers.
