Maine Military and Community Network’s third annual conference, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 28, features the theme “Military Families and Children.” The keynote speaker is Allyson Hughes Handley, president of the University of Maine at Augusta. Also, Sara Smiley, Navy spouse and author of “Dinner with the Smiley’s,” will be present with her children. Awards for excellence in support of Maine’s military population will also be presented. A bus pass program developed by the South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Rotary will provide free transportation to southern Maine veterans for medical appointments, job interviews and other obligations. A total of 345 one-way trips will be available through South Portland Bus Service, METRO, and Shuttlebus-ZOOM. Veterans Administration officials will distribute the passes to those veterans without funds or transportation.

Included are 25 one-way passes for the ZOOM Turnpike Express (Biddeford/Saco to Portland and return); two 10-ride tickets for the Intercity Shuttlebus in Biddeford, Saco, and Old Orchard Beach through Scarborough and Maine Medical Center, the Maine Mall and Congress Street in Portland and return; and 100 METRO and 100 South Portland one-ride tickets and five 10-ride tickets with free transfers between METRO and South Portland destinations.
