STANDISH – Bonny Eagle High School students Andrew Burnell, Samuel Clift, Joshua Conley, Brian Rollins, and Devin Thistlewood were selected by Standish Memorial Post 128 to attend the 66th annual American Legion Dirigo Boys State program held at Thomas College in Waterville during the week of June 16-20.

The purpose of Boys State is to provide Maine high school juniors with the opportunity to participate in a program that supplements their high school courses in government and its functions. In this program, young men role-play as they learn to campaign for local, county, and state offices and then organize and carry out the functions of the state government.

The students were nominated by school faculty and selected by Post 128 because they have demonstrated above their peers the desired qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty, and service to their school and community.

Standish Kiwanis, Norway Savings Bank, Past Commander Lou Stack, and 2nd Vice Commander Alan Dube contributed funds this year to sponsor the young men.
