Lobster Boat Races

The Maine Lobster Boat Race series has come to Long Island to be held in conjunction with the town’s 20th anniversary celebration. There will be more than 20 races as well as live music, a barbecue, children’s games and craft vendors. TUESDAY
Pemaquid Paddlers
9 a.m. in Boothbay Harbor
The Pemaquid Paddlers are celebrating their 10th year of warm-weather Tuesday paddles. All trips last two to three hours. The trips are easy to moderate in difficulty. Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak and wear a life jacket. All trips are free and open to the public. Call 677-6380 or email pemaquidpaddlers@aol.com. The put-in this week is at the Knickercane site. Take Route 27 south from Route 1 toward Boothbay and turn right at the monument. Go to the four-way stop and go straight. Where the road forks, go right and continue to the parking lot on the left.

Life in a Log
10 a.m. in Southport
This week the Boothbay Region Land Trust leads a family-friendly hike focused on plants and animals. The hands-on activity will use tools to investigate bugs and animal life. All welcome. No cost. For more information, write to thall@bbrlt.org or call 633-4818.
SATURDAY
Falcons and Kestrels
Noon in Richmond
Join licensed Maine Master Falconer Larry Barnes for a presentation on falcons and kestrels at the Swan Island Wildlife Management Area. Barnes has a wealth of knowledge about Maine raptors and will discuss their life history, fun facts and the Kestrel Partnership Fund. Come meet a peregrine falcon up close. To register, call Swan Island Reservations at 547-5322 and indicate your interest in the peregrine falcon program. Plan to arrive at the Swan Island ferry landing at the corner of Routes 197 and 24 in Richmond before 11 a.m. The ferry will return to Richmond at 2 and 3 p.m. Admission is $8. The island, located in the Kennebec River, is managed by the state.
