Command Sgt. Maj. Steven L. Curtis of Stacyville was awarded the Legion of Merit at a ceremony June 15 at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Bangor. Curtis has served for 33 years. His wife, Kelley, and son Shea attended the ceremony. The Legion of Merit is awarded for extraordinarily meritorious conduct while discharging their duty, with outstanding services and achievements. The decoration is issued both to U.S. military personnel and to military and political figures of foreign governments.

The following recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. and were commissioned to their current rank:

 

Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Mark S. Reaser, son of Christine and Richard Reaser of Dayton. He is a 2009 graduate of Thornton Academy, Saco.

Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Jordan D. Timmreck, son of James Timmreck of Brunswick. He is a 2009 graduate of Brunswick High School.

Navy Ensign Michael W. Simpson, son of Dawn Maine of Kennebunk.
