PORTLAND — A body believed to be that of Michael Allen was recovered from the Presumpscot River in Westbrook on Monday afternoon.

Allen, 37, was a lobsterman from Portland who played guitar in the local band Doubting Gravity.

He was reported missing by family members Monday.

Maine State Police were called to assist Westbrook police with the discovery of the body, in case the death was ruled a homicide, but there were no immediate indications of any crime, state police said.

Melissa Pottle, Allen’s longtime friend and roommate, confirmed that police notified Allen’s mother, and asked for privacy on her behalf.

Portland police, who took the missing-person report, said they had received no official word and the case remains open.

Westbrook police announced Monday that they had recovered a body from the Presumpscot River at 3:45 p.m. but they would release no further details.

A dispatcher said they were not authorized to release any information and none of the department’s command staff was available.

Allen’s friends were sharing condolences on social media Tuesday morning.

Allen was last heard from on Friday, when he posted a message on his Facebook page, friends said Monday. Allen’s personal items, his money and his two vehicles were left at his home on Forest Avenue.
