College leaders gathered at Southern Maine Community College recently for the presentation of a $10,000 grant from The Grainger Foundation aimed at supporting the growth in the college’s trade and technical programs.
Since 2009, The Grainger Foundation has donated a total of $48,000 to the SMCC Foundation to support these programs. The grant will provide equipment and support for integrated manufacturing, electrical engineering, construction technology, and HVAC/plumbing programs.
“There is tremendous need for our key technical and trade graduates,” SMCC President Ronald Cantor said. “These industrial programs depend on outside support and strategic partnerships with Maine businesses and employers like Grainger.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
