GRAY — Temperatures have cooled off in Maine following a week of blistering heat.

The National Weather Service says cooler and drier air arrived from Canada on Saturday, providing relief from the high temperatures and humidity and will hold on over the region through Monday.

The recent stretch of hot weather has resulted in a warm July so far.

Portland through Saturday was running nearly 5 degrees above normal for the month, with Bangor 4 degrees above normal.

July temperatures have been more than 5 degrees above normal in Caribou and more than 6 degrees higher than usual in Millinocket.
