FREEPORT — On Sept. 8, runners and walkers are invited to take a tour through Freeport Village and along Casco Bay at the inaugural Freeport Half Marathon and 5K race.

The event is a part of the New England Half Marathon Tour and features technical shirts for all half-marathoners and T-shirts for 5K runners, medals for half marathoners, pint glasses to overall and age group winners in both races, ample water stops, post-race refreshments, goodie bags and ChronoTrack B-Tag Chip Timing by Yankee Timing Services.

Race director Michael Amarello of 3C Race Productions will donate part of the proceeds to Freeport Community Services and The Freeport, Pownal and Durham Education Foundation, two local non-profits serving the citizens of the surrounding communities.

“We are thrilled to be part of such a wonderful event,” said Melanie Sachs, executive director of Freeport Community Services. “It is a great opportunity to come together, be active, and help your schools and neighbors at the same time.”

This event also is a qualifier for the New England Half Marathon Tour Challenge. All runners who finish one NEHMT event in each New England state will receive a special New England Half Marathon Tour Jacket, with the series logo on the front and the race logos on the back.
