SOUTH PORTLAND — Mariam B. “Micki” Flitner, 89, died July 19, at South Portland Nursing Home, with her loving family at her side.

She was born in Boston on Nov. 24, 1923, a daughter of Boynton Sr. and Virginia Merrill. She graduated from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., and Garland Junior College.

She married David P. Flitner, whom she met at Brewster Academy, in New York City on Nov. 3, 1944.

For many years Flitner was active in hospice caregiving and Reiki treatment. She was a spiritual woman of fine intellect and sensitivity. She and her husband created a home which drew others in and made them welcome.

She is predeceased by her husband, who died in 2004, and her brother, Boynton Merrill Jr. Her sister, Elizabeth Fitzgerald, died July 20.

She is survived by a daughter, Virginia DeRoche and her husband Robert, of South Portland; a son, David P. “Ted” Flitner and his wife Cara, of Wolfeboro, N.H.; a brother-in-law, the Rev. John Fitzgerald, of Winchester, Va.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Thursday at the First Congregational Church UCC, 301 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will take place at a later date at Riverside Cemetery, in Pittston.
