Fog covered much of southern Maine this morning and clouds will be around for much of the day.  I am watching an area of showers to the west that is making slow progress eastward. If you have outdoor plans they should be rain free for the morning and part of the afternoon before the areas of showers cross into the state from New Hampshire.

Temperatures today will be cooler than yesterday and there will be more in the way of humidity in the air.  I am looking for highs to remain in the 70s.
Overnight there will be periods of showers continuing and the rumble of thunder isn’t out of the question.  I don’t expect any severe weather or unusually heavy rain from this system.  It will continue to be muggy overnight with lows staying in the lower 60s.

On Monday our front will be trying to pass offshore.  Since the front has been slow to move in, it will be slow to leave and this means that clouds and even the chance for a shower will remain.  I expect the bulk of the day to be dry, just not very sunny.

Tuesday and Wednesday are easily the picks of the week with abundant sunshine and warm temperatures.  Humidity levels will be quite low and these two days are perfect for all summertime outdoor activities.

Towards the end of the week a few weak weather systems will move across Maine.  These systems will bring with them a chance for showers, but many hours of dry weather with some sunshine as well.  I don’t expect the time between Thursday and the weekend to be unfavorable weather wise, it just won’t be as perfect as the weather is going to be during the middle of this week.

This month has been unsettled. We have had 18 days where there has been at least a trace of rainfall since it began.  However, we have only had about 3 inches of rain the entire month.  This means while there has been a lot of clouds and showers, we won’t be breaking any records for the greatest amount of rainfall in July.

Gardening this week All this wet weather has made growing tomatoes somewhat challenging. There are many diseases that show up when the weather is cloudy and moist. If you are trying to grow tomatoes without chemicals it can be somewhat challenging. The video below shows you several different products to use when growing tomatoes or other crops, without chemicals.
