As parade participants marched and floats rolled down Main Street in Richmond during the Richmond Days parade Saturday, the parade suddenly halted and the seniors on the Golden Oldies Senior Center float flicked on a boom box and began waving gloved hands in the air to the rhythm of the music.

The crowd cheered, but that wasn’t all.

People from the sidewalks began running onto the street in front of Pierce’s Country Store, sliding on white gloves, and the mix of women, men and children all began dancing in unison in a flash mob performance that had the audience laughing and cheering.

After the performance, the parade continued on with antique vehicles, Kora Shriners, and floats by local businesses and organizations followed by a long line of fire trucks and ambulances from area fire departments.

The day was followed by inflatable bouncy houses, a water slide and games for children, along with the popular lobster crate races, a children’s fireman’s muster competition, entertainment, and food.

At around 1 p.m., several scooters rode into town with a Richmond police escort, as part of Ski’s Shrimp Run, the first scooter rally in Maine organized by two Topsham residents who say it will become an annual event.

Richmond Days concluded Saturday night with a fireworks display that lit up the waterfront on the shore of the Kennebec River.
