After the theft of 11 apple trees from South End Park, City Arborist Tom Hoerth has received several offers to help replace them.

“On my way to work this morning, I was told that the Sunrise Rotary voted to cut a check to help us afford to replace all the stolen trees,” wrote a delighted Hoerth. “And when I got to work, I had two emails, one from Tom Ford of Davey Tree Experts, and the other from Jeff O’Donal, of O’Donal’s Nursery. They wished to donate two trees each.”

Hoerth said he will soon schedule a date to have the replacement trees planted.

The stolen trees had been taken on two separate occasions in the month of June. The trees were part of a larger effort to establish an urban orchard, as part of a grant by the state-funded Project Canopy.
