FAIRFIELD (AP) — The first charter school graduation since Maine enacted a law allowing charter schools is being held in central Maine.

Ten seniors are graduating today from the Maine Academy of Natural Sciences at Good Will-Hinckley in Fairfield.

The ceremony will include remarks from Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen and Maine Senate President Justin Alfond. The keynote speech will come from author Bernd Heinrich, who graduated from Good- Will-Hinckley School in 1959 when it was a home and alternative school for at-risk youth.

Forty-six students were enrolled at the academy this year.
