BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox reliever Matt Thornton left Sunday’s game against Arizona in the eighth inning with an apparent injury.
He had just thrown an 0- 2 pitch to Didi Gregorius when catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, manager John Farrell and a team trainer came jogging out to the mound. No information was immediately available.
After a brief conversation, Farrell signaled for reliever Drake Britton.
Thornton, acquired last month from the Chicago White Sox, pitched to one batter before he left. Boston won 4-0.
