To the Editor:

In response to the July 26 letter criticizing me from a supporter of the private but also publicly funded school in Harpswell (“Charter schools far from exclusive,” Page A12), I have only this to say: I have carefully studied Maine’s legislation. The law still stands for public funding for private schools.

Also, I have carefully read all of Mr. (Head of Coastal Academy School John) D’Anieri’s writing since March. I don’t think I have misquoted him. Still, either we change our state law or abide by it. Public schools are public and paid for “by the people.”
