A Bath man arrested in May after police say he beat up his girlfriend pleaded guilty in Sagadahoc County Superior Court last month to a charge of domestic violence assault. He now faces nine months in jail.
Damion Fincher, 25, pleaded guilty to the charge, said Assistant District Attorney Patricia Mador. Addit ional charges — of aggravated assault and domestic violence terrorizing — were dismissed.
Mador said Fincher pleaded guilty to a Class C crime and was sentenced to 42 months in jail with all but 9 months suspended, plus two years of probation with a “multitude” of conditions.
Bath police officers responded May 5 to an apartment Fincher shared with his then 21- year- old girlfriend and her half-sister, and were told by the sister that Fincher was beating his girlfriend.
The young woman allegedly had marks she said were from being pushed and then dragged across a rug.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
