A 2-year-old was transported to Maine Medical Center after ingesting an overdose of an older sibling’s medication at a Lincoln Street residence.
The child, who is recovering, took a bottle of pills off a counter when the child’s father was not looking last Wednesday evening, Aug. 14. The father noticed almost immediately and took the child to the hospital. Mid Coast Hospital sent the child to Maine Medical Center in Portland as a precaution.
The overdose was determined to be accidental.
If a child has ingested drugs, call 911 if the person has collapsed or stopped breathing; begin CPR if necessary. Call Poison Control at 1-(800) 222-1222, even if the person has no symptoms. Experts will advise how to proceed.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
