Army Pvt. Maraka D. Soule has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Soule is a daughter of William and Wendy Soule of Buxton, and sister of Daniel Soule of South Portland. She is a 2012 graduate of South Portland High School.

Army Reserve Pfc. Brianna L. Bower has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Bower is the daughter of Stephanie Bower of South Portland and is a 2012 graduate of South Portland High School.

Maine Army National Guard received an Honorable Mention in the National Guard Bureau’s 2012 Environmental Stewardship Award competition which evaluates compliance with state and federal land use, waste, water quality, and air quality regulations by an independent auditor. Maine Army National Guard delivered a top-five performance of the 54 state and territorial National Guard units that were evaluated.

The Civil Air Patrol’s Northeast Region Change of Command Ceremony was held Aug. 11 at the New England Air Museum at Bradley International Airport, Windsor Locks, Conn. Col. Daniel Leclair became the new Northeast Region Commander, taking over from Col. Christopher Hayden, who had held the position since 2009. Both Hayden and Leclair are former Maine Wing Commanders. The Civil Air Patrol is the civilian auxiliary of the Air Force.
