TOPSHAM
Selectmen will hear presentations and public comments tonight about two proposed tax-increment financing districts.
Kevin Bunker will speak about the affordable housing TIF district, which is part of a proposal to replace the former Amenity Manor nursing home at 29 Elm St., with a 2.5- story senior housing facility. The district would be 2.63 acres and shelter taxes over 18 years.
Charles Lawton of Planning Decisions will speak about a downtown TIF proposed for properties along Main Street and the Topsham Commerce Park, which would encompass about 326 acres.
Selectmen tonight will consider placing both proposals on the Sept. 25 special town meeting warrant.
More information about the proposals can be found on the righthand side of the town website homepage at www.topshammaine.com.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
