BOWDOIN

Authorities believe a driver who crashed her van Friday along U.S. Route 201 suffered a medical issue.

The crash was reported at 3:25 p.m. on Route 201 just south of Millay Road.

Sgt. Dale Hamilton of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department said Cpl. Ian Alexander was off duty when he came upon the crash.

A 2001 Honda Odyssey left the right side of the road, hit some stumps and came to rest 20 feet off the road, Hamilton said. There was no evidence the driver hit the brakes, he said.

The driver, Winona Williams, 64, of Bowdoinham, is believed to have suffered a medical issue that led to the crash. She was removed from the van by emergency personnel, Hamilton said, and while conscious and suffering from shock, didn’t appear to have any major injuries.

A LifeFlight helicopter was called and the Bowdoinham Fire Department set up a landing zone for LifeFlight.

According to Russell Carter of the Bowdoin Fire Department, Williams was transported by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center rather than by air.

Hamilton said the road was closed temporarily while Rick’s Towing retrieved the van. Richmond Fire Department assisted with traffic control.

Earlier Friday, a Lisbon man was taken to a Lewiston hospital with minor injuries after he rolled his 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee along Dead River Road in Bowdoin.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department was called to 89 Dead River Road at 7:34 a.m. Chief Deputy Brett Strout said the driver and sole occupant — Logan McGuire, 18, of Lisbon — was driving when he rolled his vehicle during a single-vehicle crash. Strout said speed is a factor.

McGuire was transported to Central Maine Medical Center and was summonsed on a charge of operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

On Saturday morning, Hamilton said Deputy Steve Thibeault was traveling east on Roberts Road and noticed a vehicle upside-down in a ditch near 96 Roberts Road.

The was no one around the maroon 2000 Chevy S10 pickup truck, which had rolled over and was left totaled, Hamilton said.

The truck was cold to the touch so the crash likely happened some time earlier.

The truck was impounded and Hamilton said they don’t believe the registered owner, who lives nearby the site of the crash, was driving the vehicle. The sheriff ’s department continues to investigate the crash and who was driving the truck. Charges are pending.
