AUGUSTA — Abby Noborowsky and Katie Carroll each scored a first-half goal as the Cony High School field hockey team downed Mt. Ararat, 2-0, in season-opening Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.

Noborowsky scored off a Carroll assist 7:22 into the contest, and Carroll doubled the advantage for the hosts with 10:54 left until halftime off a penalty corner. Emily Bowers picked up an assist.

Lindsay Lapierre turned aside seven Mt. Ararat (0-1 and slated to host Messalonskee on Friday at 4 p.m.) shots for the shutout.

For the Eagles, Renee Rossignol (three saves) and Nellie Hetherington (four saves) combined in net.

Cony (1-0) finished with a 13-8 shot advantage, with Mt. Ararat holding an 8-5 edge in penalty corners.

Brianna DeGone scored a pair of goals and Sadie Royer scored once and collected a pair of assists as host Leavitt landed on Morse with a season opening KVAC Class B victory Wednesday.

The Hornets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, with Kierstin Leclerc scoring first followed by DeGone’s first of two goals.

In the second half, Emma Martineau, Royer, Emily Shaw and DeGone eached had a goal for the Hornets.

Leavitt goalie Sierra Santomango had no saves. Leavitt outshot Morse, 30-1. The Shipbuilders are set to host Lincoln Academy on Friday.
