On Saturday, Aug. 24, the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust hosted an afternoon exploration of the late summer butterflies of upper Middle Bay with local lepidopteron expert Chris Livesay. It was a beautiful, sunny day — perfect for seeing butterflies. A number of butterflies were on the wing, as well as captured — including the elusive wood nymph (Cercyonis pegala), the beautiful and relatively uncommon bronze copper (Lycaena hyllus). The exploration concluded with a peek at Livesay’s famed collection of mounted butterflies. It was an afternoon enjoyed by all, and the Land Trust is truly grateful for Chris Livesay’s willingness to welcome visitors to his land, and to all the community members who came out to enjoy the afternoon.
