BRUNSWICK — Caring for someone with dementia is an exceptionally big responsibility with unique challenges and rewards. Mid Coast Senior Health Center offers a monthly support group with presentations designed to help understand the challenges, fostering supportive and beneficial conversation among participants.
On Sept. 19, from 4:30–5:30 p.m., Diane Dalton, RNC, manager of Quality and Compliance, Mid Coast Senior Health Center, will present, “Brain Related Changes in Alzheimer’s Disease.” The presentation will use an instructional video to cover various changes that occur with the progression of dementia. The talk will focus on understanding cognitive loss and ways to develop a positive approach when com- municating with people with dementia.
After the presentation, Dalton will co-facilitate the group discussion with Cindy Hughes, activities director for The Garden, an assisted living home for people living with dementia.
This free support group is open to the public and meets the third Thursday of every month at Mid Coast Senior Health Center, 58 Baribeau Drive in Brunswick. For more information about the support group and future presentations, please call 373-4656.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
