YARMOUTH — Merrill Memorial Library is one of 10 Maine libraries to receive grants from The Tabitha and Stephen King Foundation this year.
The foundation awarded a $50,000 grant to the library for its upcoming $2.5 million renovation project. The grant was awarded in March, but announced on the Maine state website on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
The renovation project was the subject of a $1.5 million bond question that passed in June. The library is responsible for raising $1 million on its own. So far it has raised about $400,000, including a total of $95,000 in grants, according to Gro Flatebo, president of the library board.
The library will kick off another fundraising campaign next month with an open house from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, at the library, 215 Main St.
