Unger thanked local workplaces that participated in a food drive for the kickoff that collected more than 2,300 pounds of food to help people in need through Mid-coast food pantries.
A highlight of the Kickoff was the showing of the annual video, and the presence of the local people featured in the video who told their stories of being helped. The gathered audience of about 100 business and community leaders gave the video participants a round of applause for their contribution to spreading understanding of how United Way donors’ gifts help real people. The reception was held at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath and was sponsored by Mid Coast Hospital.
The campaign goal is to raise more than $1.9 million. To give, or for more information, visit www.uwmcm.org.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
