BRUNSWICK
The National Weather Service says a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Waldo and York counties.
Also a Flash Flood Watch is in effect through late tonight for portions of western Maine and New Hampshire including Androscoggin, coastal Cumberland, interior Cumberland, Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties.
Through late tonight, showers and thunderstorms will continue with some of the stronger storms may training over the same areas that have seen flooding rains, producing rainfall rates of 2-3 inches in an hour. This may lead to areas of localized flash flooding.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Our readers are reminded to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
