TOPSHAM — The Topsham Recreation Department’s fifth- and sixth-grade Ararat Basketball Youth Travel Team tryouts are scheduled to be held Oct. 8-9 at the Mt. Ararat Middle School.

On Oct. 8, the boys will have the gym from 5:30 p.m. 6:45 p.m. with the girls to follow from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

On Oct. 9 the girls will be in the gym from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., with the boys to follow from 7 p.m.. to 8:15 p.m.

Players are asked to arrive a little early to register at the door. It is required that athletes make at least one of the two nights of tryouts.

Anyone from Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell and Topsham is welcome to try out.

The travel level is an advanced skills level of basketball, and participants should be aware of the commitment to the program.

The Ararat Travel teams participate in the Cape Elizabeth Travel League (formerly Freeport Travel) and the games will begin mid-November. Travel coaches try to move the practices around to all towns, but due to gym scheduling it is often held at one location.

Games will begin Nov. 9 and will continue through mid- February.

There is a league playoff at the end of the regular season, so a successful team may be playing through mid-March. There is a fee of $50 for those players making the teams.
