WESTBROOK — The Maine USATF fall cross country program is set to begin Sunday at Smiling Hill Farm.
It is the first of five preliminary meets to be held at various locations around the state. Entry fee is $4 and USATF registration ($15 youth, $30 adult) is required and available at all the meets.
Registration begins at 12:15 p.m. Course walks will begin at 1 p.m. The first race begins at 2 p.m. Ribbons will be awarded to the top six in each age division. Participant ribbons will be awarded to all others.
The age divisions are 8- and-under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, 19-29, and 30 and up at five-year intervals. Age groups are determined by subtracting birth year from 2011.
The State Championship will be held on Nov. 10 at Cony High School in Augusta.
The top-30 in each age group and the top-five clubs will advance to the Region 1 Championship to be held Nov. 24 at Wappingers Park, N.Y.
The top-20 and the top-five clubs will advance to the National Championship that will also be held in San Antonio, Texas, on Dec. 14.
