WINTHROP — Police continue to search for a Winthrop man who was reported missing over the weekend.

Winthrop Police Capt. Ryan Frost said a grid search that included Maine game wardens and Winthrop firefighters failed to locate 60-year-old Thomas Devoy. Monday’s search focused on the woods behind his home at 333 Stanley Road.

“We are concerned for his welfare,” Frost said.

Devoy is believed to have left his home early Sunday wearing brown sweat pants, a black North Face fleece pullover and slippers. Devoy, who is about 5-foot-4 and weighs about 140 pounds, left behind his cellphone and wallet.

Frost said Sunday in a news release that he had “no indication of destination or any intent.”

The Maine Warden Service used dogs and an airplane to search for Devoy in the woods around his home Sunday, according to the release.

Sunday night and Monday morning were rainy and cold, and while the temperature rose during the day, rain and wind continued through the day.

Frost said searchers have received a handful of tips, but none of the information has proven fruitful.

Devoy is the second Stanley Road resident to spark a search in a little more than a year. A 33-year-old man disappeared from his home in September 2012. The man contacted his family from New Hampshire about 10 days later.

Police ask anyone who has seen or had contact with Devoy since Saturday to call 911 or 377-7226.
