BATH — The Hyde School football team fell to Dexter School, 38-28 on Saturday,
Trailing 16-0, Hyde’s Chris Collins hauled in a 19-yard TD pass from Evander Lenardson (nine completions for 231 yards, two TDs) with 9:52 to go in the half for a 16-8 deficit at the break.
Dexter QB Luke Cuneo connected with Owen Martinson to put Dexter on top 22-8. Two minutes later, Jared Jensen of Brunswick (48 yards rushing) punched it in from 9-yards out to close the gap, 22-14.
On the ensuing kickoff, Justin Smith ran 90 yards for a 30-14 Dexter lead.
Again, Hyde put together a sustained 63-yard drive, capped with Collins’ (nine catches, 214 yards) second TD catch.
However, Dexter drove 67 yards in six plays, with Luke Cuneo handing off to brother Matt for a 25-yard run and 38-22 lead.
Jensen returned the kickoff 36 yards to set the Phoenix up on the D-46. Six plays later, Caleb Jones (12 carries for 82 yards), behind standout blocking from Zach Messina and Ryan Moran, rambled 25 yards to close the gap to 38-28 with nine minutes left.
On a fourth-and-six on the H-19, Jensen knocked the ball out of a Dexter receiver’s hands and the Phoenix took possession with 1:32 remaining.
Five plays later Dexter intercepted a pass on fourthand 10.
