AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage says all state employees who were temporarily laid off during the federal government shutdown are back at work.

The Republican governor said those who were furloughed or displaced to a different position returned to work as normal on Friday.

LePage says that disability determination specialists at the Winthrop office were called back to work on Thursday. The entire 52-person staff at the Disability Determination Office was furloughed last week because their positions are funded by the federal government.

In addition, 44 Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management employees are returning to work Friday. LePage says the federal government has promised to provide them back pay.

Lawmakers in Washington, D.C., reached a deal late Wednesday to reopen the federal government.
