THE PORTAGE COMPANY, a new business located at 813 U.S. Route 1 in Woolwich, offers Maine-made home furnishings and fine art. Owner Jeff Peters, the founder/owner of Georgetown Pottery, said, “We feature only Maine artisans and seek to find works that are truly one-of-a-kind and will be cherished for generations. We also help our customers select an appropriate artist to complete their custom project.” The business is open every day, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and can be reached at 443-1058. Future plans include further developing the store’s collection of artists, woodworkers, metalsmiths and craftspeople. The Portage Company also hopes to feature the home furnishings and fine art of Maine’s talented and lesser-known artisans.
