KITTERY — Lily Posternak scored 38 seconds into the game to lead top-seeded York to a 4-0 Western Maine Class B quarterfinal victory over No. 8 Freeport in a high school field hockey contest on Tuesday.
Taylor Simpson, Devin Datsis and Kathleen Cronin added a first-half goal each for the Wildcats (15-0), who will host defending Class B state champion Leavitt in the Western B semifinals on Saturday. Freeport finished 6-9.
“It was a good season, and I was pleased that we kept York off the scoreboard in the second half, which is a tough thing to do,” said Freeport first-year coach Marcia Wood, who loses seniors Emily Sturtevant, Olivia Bubar, Lee Brown and Megan Peacock. “This team never once gave up this season. They worked together throughout the year and had a good time.”
