To the Editor:
Every article I read about Leon (Kelley)’s murder leaves me more and more confused as to why an arrest has not been made.
One quote says this about the attacker: He “was detained, interviewed and released Sunday, according to police. Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Monday that police are continuing their investigation and had yet to determine whether to press charges.”
The owner of the business, Stan Brown, is quoted as saying “I think it’s pretty … rotten. …They said they need more evidence. What more evidence do you need? You’ve got a dead man with three bullet holes in him. … What (more) do they want? Another dead man? It doesn’t make sense at all.”
No, Mr. Brown, it does not make sense.
If readers are as incensed as I am about the incompetence of the police in this matter, please contact Attorney General Janet Mills in Augusta. Let her know you demand justice for Leon Kelley.
The phone number is 626-8800. The address: 6 State House Station, Augusta 04333. Letters can also be posted online at www.maine.gov/ag/contact. html.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
