NEW FACES

• Verrill Dana welcomes four new associates:

Braden Clement, Colin Hay, Spencer Thibodeau and Mathew Todaro have joined the law firm in Portland.

Clement is a graduate of University of Maine School of Law. He holds a master’s degree in educational studies from Tufts University’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and a bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College.

Hay earned his law degree from Boston University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College.

Thibodeau is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law, where he served as a member of the Student Bar Association and the Black Law Students Association. He earned his undergraduate degree from Fairfield University.

Todaro is a recent graduate of Boston College Law School. Prior to law school, he served as the international policy director for one of the nation’s largest environmental networks.

• Peter Baker of Yarmouth was named the executive director of Cape Memory Care, a specialized care facility for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other related memory impairments. Baker previously was director of life enrichment and a member of the leadership team at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth. He will be responsible for the daily management of Cape Memory Care, operated by Woodlands Senior Living.

• Suzanne Gagne and Katryna Treuhaft joined Norton Insurance Agency.

Gagne, of Harpswell, has rejoined the company as a personal lines supervisor. She had worked for Norton from 1995 to 1999. Most recently, she worked for Cross Insurance in its personal and commercial lines sales division.

Treuhaft, of Windham, was hired as a marketing specialist. She previously worked for Prudential as a disability and family medical leave claims manager.

• Amy Harvey of North Tonawanda, N.Y., joined Broadreach Public Relations as public relations apprentice.

Harvey will learn and execute all aspects of public relations, including assisting in media and client relations, general strategy, tactical and social media planning.

AWARDS

• The Maine Association of Broadcasters announced the recipients of the 2013 news and creative awards at its convention in Augusta.

The Maine Public Broadcasting Network received five awards across a range of specialties in the competition‘s radio category.

In the continuing coverage category, Susan Sharon was awarded first place for her coverage of fires in Lewiston. Patty Wight’s piece, “Dental Camp,” also won a first place in the feature category.

In the enterprise category, Jay Field won third place for his “Grading Schools” piece. Susan Sharon, Keith Shortall, AJ Higgins and Wight received third place in the public affairs category for coverage detailing the Affordable Care Act in Maine.

The MPBN news team also scored a third-place award for election coverage. Those honored include: Irwin Gratz, Tom Porter, Barbara Cariddi, Jennifer Mitchell, Ed Morin, Sam Fields, Shortall, Sharon, Higgins, Field and Wight.

• Frank O’Shea, a principal in BerryDunn’s Commercial Tax Services Group, received the Pinnacle 2013 Excellence in Exit Planning Achievement Award.

O’Shea has more than 30 years of experience helping hundreds of business and individual clients gain control of the issues related to income and estate tax planning as well as business transition and valuation.
