NORTH BERWICK — Brandon Ford scored 14 minutes into the game Wednesday and second-seeded Noble went on to a 1-0 victory against seventh-ranked Cheverus in a Western Class A schoolboy soccer quarterfinal.

Josh Emard touched a ball in the box back out to Ford, whose shot deflected off a defender and past goalie Charlie Mull.

Noble will be home Saturday in the semifinals against third-seeded Portland (11-2-2).

Drew Martin made 12 saves for the shutout for the Knights (12-2-1). Mull had six saves for Cheverus (10-5-1).

 

CAPE ELIZABETH 5, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Cole Caswell scored after 58 seconds and the fourth-seeded Capers (6-5-4) pulled away from fifth-ranked Lincoln Academy (2-5-7) at Cape Elizabeth.

Cape served the ball toward R.J. Sarka in the box. Caswell ran under Sarka’s header and took the ball to the net for a 1-0 lead.

Caswell finished with two goals. Eli Breed and Sarka each had a goal and an assist, and Kevin Hare added a goal.

Austin Anders stopped the only shot he faced. Wally Morris made six saves for the Eagles.

 

CHOP POINT 2, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 1: Sam Stevens sent a penalty kick into the bottom right corner late in the first half, giving third-seeded Chop Point (9-2) a 2-1 lead over the sixth-ranked Lions (8-6-1) in a Western Class D quarterfinal at Woolwich.

Robbie Eger also scored for the Blue Bears. Tyler Steinwachs countered from David Davol for Greater Portland Christian.

Gable Stevens stopped four shots for Chop Point. Mason Jones had three saves for the Lions.

 

GREELY 3, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Miles Shields scored twice as the second-seeded Rangers (11-2-2) defeated seventh-ranked Gray-New Gloucester (6-8-2) in a Western Class B quarterfinal at Cumberland.

Shields opened the scoring with 11:32 left in the first half, heading home a corner from Matt Crowley. Shields scored off a cross from Aidan Black three minutes later.

Black added a second-half goal from Hunter Graham.

Alex McAdoo had six saves for Greely. Brendan McNally stopped 12 shots for the Patriots.

YORK 8, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 0: Josh Mitchell scored three goals to lead the third-seeded Wildcats (5-4-6) past No. 6 Spruce Mountain (7-7-1) in a Western Class B quarterfinal at York.

Spencer Goulette, Michael Gallagher and Mitchell Hickey each had a goal and an assist. Sam Rickerich and Chris D’Aquila also scored, while Andrew Young had an assist.

 

YARMOUTH 7, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Adam LaBrie and Wyatt Jackson each scored twice as the top-ranked Clippers (12-0-3) advanced to the Western Class B semifinals by beating eighth-seeded Fryeburg Academy (5-8-3) at Yarmouth.

David Murphy, Travis Hamre and Nick Kamra also scored.

Blaine Andreoli made nine saves for the Raiders.

 

CAMDEN HILLS 4, ERSKINE ACADEMY 0: Peter Vannorsdall scored two goals in the first half and the second-seeded Windjammers (14-0-1) rolled into the Eastern Class B semifinals by eliminating seventh-ranked Erskine Academy (12-4) with a victory at Rockport.

Grayson Szumilas and Zach Pitcairn also scored for Camden Hills, which will will be home against third-seeded Winslow (12-0-3) in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Jared Gartley had seven saves for the Eagles.

LEWISTON 3, MESSALONSKEE 1: The second-seeded Blue Devils (12-1-2) raced out to a 2-0 lead and held off seventh-ranked Messalonskee (6-7-2)in an Eastern Class A quarterfinal at Lewiston.

Maslah Hassan and Abdibaari Hersi scored about a minute and a half apart midway through the first half. Abdi-Shariff Hassan also scored for Lewiston.

Brandon Nale scored off a pass from Juan Cardona to lead the Eagles. Jonah Webb had six saves.

 

ST. DOMINIC 1, MT. ABRAM 0: The fourth-seeded Saints (13-1-1) scored an own goal with about 16 minutes left in the first half and held off the fifth-ranked Roadrunners (11-4) to earn the Western Class C quarterfinal victory at Auburn.

It marked the first time this season that the Roadrunners were held without a goal.

Tristen Dyer had 12 saves for Mt. Abram.

 

RICHMOND 4, VINALHAVEN 0: Nate and Cody Tribbet had a hand in all four goals to lead the second-seeded Bobcats (11-2-2) to a Western Class D quarterfinal win at Richmond.

Cody Tribbet opened the scoring eight minutes into the game, assisted by Jonathan Simmons. Nate Tribbett added an unassisted goal later in the first half, followed by a goal from Brendan Emmons assisted by Cody Tribbet.

Nate Tribbet wrapped up the scoring in the second half, assisted by Cody Tribbet.

VOLLEYBALL

YARMOUTH 3, CALAIS 0: Grace Mallett served four aces, helping the top-seeded Clippers (14-1) beat No. 4 Calais (9-7) in a Class B semifinal at Yarmouth, 25-21, 25-13 and 25-8.

Kristina Borderia had five kills for Yarmouth, and Abby Latham added four. Jasmine Ross had three kills, four digs and two blocks for Calais.
