BATH — Elaine Helen Mitchell, 90, of Bath, died Oct. 18 at the Hill House.

She was born in Wiscasset, on April 25, 1923, the daughter of Jesse and Auta Munsey. She grew up in Wiscasset and attended school there.

She married Sherman H Mitchell Sr. on Dec. 14, 1940, and the couple resided in Bath to raise their family. She had five children whom she adored, and she was very proud to be a mom.

Once they were all in school, Mitchell joined the work force by volunteering. For many years, she helped out at a soup kitchen and food pantry. She was the safety crossing guard at Dike-Newell School, and also helped out at the hospital Aux Thrift Store and at the Mid-Coast Café.

Mitchell was a member of the Bath Area Senior Citizens Club, where she would often play cards, something for which she had a passion. She was also a member of Coasters and the United Methodist Church of Bath for over 70 years.

She was a special lady and will be missed by all those who knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Sherman, and a son, Daniel S. Mitchell.

She is survived by daughters, Margaret Abbott and husband David, and Roby Ann Scott and husband Dennis; sons, Sherman Mitchell Jr. and wife Rebecca, of Bath, and Leverett Mitchell and wife Diane, of Bath; six grandchildren and their spouses; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Oct. 22 at the United Methodist Church, Bath. A committal service followed at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bath.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her name to the United Methodist Church, 340 Oak Grove Ave., Bath, ME 04530.
