The featured act is the Opus One Big Band.
The evening will begin with a silent auction and complimentary dessert buffet in the Brunswick High School cafeteria at 5:30 p.m., followed by the concert in Crooker Theater at 7 p.m.
The event will also include a performance by the Brunswick High School Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Michael Scarpone.
Scarpone, director of instrumental music at Brunswick High School, is also a member of the Opus One Band. Under his direction, the BHS Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo have received top ratings at the District 3 Music Festival and the Berklee College of Music Jazz Festival, in Boston.
He said the “Night of Swing and Jazz” silent auction and concert is a “crucial” fundraising event to support the school’s music programs. All proceeds benefit the band and chorus programs.
The Opus One Big Band is comprised of Maine musicians who support music programs by performing benefit concerts throughout the state. The band has been playing for more than 20 years and has performed for church concert series, music booster fundraisers and other charitable events.
The band is currently under the direction of Dale Perkins and includes music educators and performers from across the state. The Brunswick concert will feature Big Band and jazz music.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Adults may also purchase chances to win one of three raffle items at a drawing to be held at the concert: iPad current version 32 GB with retina display; 100 gallons of fuel oil or kerosene, courtesy of Dead River; or flip video camcorder.
The silent auction features 50 donated items such as a hot air balloon ride, a family membership at the Farnsworth Art Museum, tickets to a Maine State Music Theater performance, fitness membership to Maine Pines, as well as many gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses.
