BRUNSWICK

The Town Council will hear updates tonight about town facilities in flux.

Town Manager Gary Brown is expected to provide an update of the ongoing renovation plan for the McLellan Building, Brunswick’s soon-to-be new town hall on Union Street.

Renovation committee members David Watson, Gerald Favreau and Margo Knight met with construction manager Peter Warren on Oct. 24 to discuss final architectural plans for the remodeling, which reportedly will cost about $859,000.

Councilors also will receive a preliminary update regarding the continuing relocation of the Parks and Recreation Department to its new home at 220 Neptune Drive; the department’s pre-school has been in operation since September and a full slate of winter-season activities is being readied.

A full report is due before the council during its meeting Nov. 18.

Additionally, Brunswick Sewer District personnel will present an overview of an extensive upgrade plan developed by the district and Wright-Pierce Engineering in Topsham.

The proposed plant renovations range from physical facilities upgrades, which would add meeting and locker space, to installation of new or more advanced equipment that will increase processing capacity and efficiency. Many of the improvements are technological, designed to provide computerized monitoring of the wastewater treatment process that the District currently lacks.

Better monitoring means better, safer and more efficient treatment, according to Leonard Blanchette, the District’s executive director.

The initial estimated cost of the upgrade is $22.3 million, funded using bonds and paid for by incremental rate increases over several years.

Also, Nelson Moody, the new owner of Yankee Lanes Bowling Center on Bath Road, will appear during a public hearing on his application for a special amusement license.

Moody bought the ten-pin institution in September from former owner Bowl New England. He already has acquired a license to serve alcohol; now he would like the town to approve his application for live entertainment.

The public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Brunswick Station, in the second-floor meeting room.
