The Town Office in Durham hours are Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Wednesday closed, and Thursday, 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. For more information, call 353-2561.

Meetings

Selectmen will meet Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m., at the Town Office. The change is due to Election Day on Nov. 5. The board will meet again Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 6:30 p.m., at the Town Office.

The Durham Planning Board meets Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m., at the Town Office.

The Durham Historical Society will meet Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m., at the Eureka Community Center.

CEO available

The town’s codes enforcement officer will be available from 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 6, 20 and 27, at the Town Office. There are no hours on Nov. 13 due to the Veterans Day holiday.

Daily raffle raises Fire & Rescue funds

Durham Fire & Rescue, in conjunction with Cabela’s, is hosting its annual gun raffle. Tickets are still available at $20 each. The odds of winning are 1 in 100. Tickets are limited to 3,000. A raffle ticket name will be drawn each day starting Nov. 1 and ending on Nov. 30. Winners will have their choice of gun or gift certificate.

Tickets can be purchased from Durham Fire & Rescue at the station, 353-2473, from any member of the Durham Fire and Rescue and at the Durham Get & Go, 353-9400. Members to contact directly are Scott St. Michel, 207-837-3540, or Keith Russell at 207-837-8748. Proceeds benefit the Fire & Rescue Department.

The Durham PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is having its third annual craft fair on Nov. 16, from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. Tables are $20 if payment is received by Nov. 1. All tables purchased after Nov. 1 are $25. For more information, contact Laurel Gervais at [email protected], or call 522-1919.

Interact Club hosting bean supper

The Interact Club of Freeport High School will put on a bean supper at the Durham Masonic Lodge, Saturday, Nov. 9, starting at 4:30 p.m. The menu is beans, potato salad, cole slaw, chop suey, bread and homemade pies. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children12 and under.

The club is raising money to go to the Dominican Republic to install water filters in poor communities. The trip will take place in June 2014. The club needs to raise roughly $40,000. There are 12 students and five chaperones going on the trip.

Rod and gun club meeting Nov. 11

The Durham Rod and Gun Club will meet Monday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m., at the clubhouse, 59 Pound Road. Guests will be the young women from the Mount Ararat school system, who will talk about their recent introductory archery event hosted at the club, and also accompanied by several parents. Discussion will follow on how the club can support similar youth involvement and outreach in the future.

The club also is looking for potential candidates to fill two recent vacancies on the executive committee for the 2014 calendar year. This evening will present an excellent opportunity for any interested members to meet with current club officers to discuss any and all positions, as well as the work being done on the club’s various committees. There will also be a 50/50 drawing held every month to raise funds for the continued improvement of the club’s trout pond. Tickets sell for $1 each or six for $5.

Community center goings-on

The Durham Eureka Community Center, corner of Routes 9 and Route 136, hosts cribbage every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon at the Eureka Center. Coffee and light refreshments will be available.

Also, a six-week series of gentle yoga led by Moriah Salter, founder of Healing Earth Yoga, has begun. In these slow-movement, beginner-friendly classes, students learn the basics of yoga through flowing sequences of foundational and restorative poses with a focus on alignment, breathing techniques and guided relations. Bring a yoga mat and water bottle to each session. The class is from 4-5:15 p.m. For more information, call 353-2561.

Couponing for the Community meets every other Tuesday (next session Nov. 19) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. No cost. Learn the basics including where/how to find and collect coupons; how to organize them in a way that works best for you; and how to begin using them. Pat Provost heads this community project with the hopes that some of the skills acquired will be used to give back to the community by helping families in need.

New Wine Christian Band concert Nov. 9

On Nov. 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., the North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road, Pownal, is sponsoring a concert by New Wine. Admission is free. A free-will offering will be taken.

New Wine is a Christian band made up of “mature” Christian believers of varied background. During the past year, the band has been invited to play its brand of music with a message at community events, where it was the only overtly Christian voice, including the “Bands on the Run” half-marathon and a “Battle of the Bands,” with good reception and feedback.

Students raising funds

Each Freeport High School class is selling a different holiday item to raise funds for annual student activities. Freshmen are selling pies, sophomores are selling poinsettias, juniors are selling wreaths and seniors are selling citrus. Food pantry open Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday

Lisbon Area Christian Outreach serves the towns of Bowdoin, Durham and Lisbon Falls.

The hours are Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday 8-10 a.m. The Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street. The parking lot for the food pantry is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church off Berry Avenue. In addition to the food pantry there is a free clothing bank.
