AUGUSTA — Maine’s attorney general is warning Mainers about fraudulent door-to-door meat sellers who are duping customers.

Attorney General Janet Mills say there have been reports of people going door-to-door claiming they have meat for sale that was left over from a delivery that fell through or couldn’t be made. She says they’re promising high-quality meat at rock-bottom prices, but that the final product turns out to be expensive and of low quality.

The scammers are reportedly telling people the meat is left over from a local restaurant that couldn’t take an entire order, or was supposed to be delivered to a neighbor who wasn’t home.

Mills says residents should be wary of door-to-door meat and seafood sellers who stop by unannounced.
