ALNA — A Jefferson man was killed Friday night when his pickup truck went off the road and into the Sheepscot River.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Steven Parlin, 27, of Jefferson was traveling east on Dock Road in Alna when his 1995 Ford Ranger crossed into the westbound lane, went out of control and crossed back across the eastbound lane and against a guardrail and tree before falling several feet into the river below, where it sank into the water.

Parlin was the only occupant in the truck.

The accident was reported at 9:45 p.m. Friday.

Deputy Kenneth Hatch and a member of the Alna Fire Department removed Parlin from the vehicle, but he already had died by the time they arrived, according to a news release from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Parlin was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

The crash is under investigation, and Sgt. Jason Nein is reconstructing its details. Other officers also mapped out the crash site as part of the investigation.

Members of Alna Fire Department, Wiscasset Fire and Rescue, and Wiscasset Ambulance Service went to the scene.
