GORHAM — Bowdoin College cross-country runners Coby Horowitz and Lucy Skinner both qualified for the NCAA Championship Saturday at the New England Division III regional, hosted by the University of Southern Maine.

Horowitz finished fourth overall in the men’s race while Skinner took ninth in the women’s race.

The top-six individuals who are not part of qualifying teams earn bids to the Championship, which will be hosted next Saturday at Hanover College in Indiana.

In the team results, the Bowdoin women took 11th place, while the men earned a seventh-place showing. The Polar Bear men’s team has a slim chance at an atlarge bid.

In the men’s 8K competition, Horowitz ran most of the race in eighth place at the back of the front pack. He moved up to sixth with a mile to go and passed two more runners to finish fourth at the line in 24:42.18.

In 23rd place at the two-mile mark, Skinner moved up to 14th at the three-mile mark, and then passed five more runners in the final sixth-tenths of a mile to earn her trip to nationals with a time of 21:35.23. Madelena Rizzo (22:14.04) was next-best in 32nd for Bowdoin, followed by Caroline Corban in 100th (23:30.12), Brenna Fischer in 116th
