WINTHROP — A Winthrop man is dead and his wife and another man were taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center following a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Route 202 near Royal Street.
Richard St. Laurent, 80, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities there. His wife, Patricia St. Laurent, 74, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
A second man, Jeffrey Ray, 44, was also injured.
The crash, which occurred shortly before 9 a.m., involved a box truck and a customed van. State and Winthrop police remain on the scene reconstructing the accident, and eastbound traffic is being detoured around it onto Route 133.
It appeared the truck collided with the rear of the van.
