The Maine Department of Transportation has released concept images of the proposed replacement for the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge, connecting Kittery and Portsmouth, N.H., on the Route 1 Bypass.

The $160 million replacement will be located upriver from the existing bridge, is expected to have a 204-foot-long center span. The span will be 60 feet above the water, reducing the number of times it needs to be raised by 60 percent.

Figg Engineering Group produced the concept designs.
