To the Editor:
I think it’s a shame that stores stay open on holidays. That’s the time families should be together.
In the old days, weekends were family days. No one needed to go to the market, feed store or any other place. We all managed to do without a run to any store.
Yes, there were momand pop stores and that’s how they survived. Now it’s all about the almighty dollar.
There are six days in the week to get your shopping done. Bring back closing on Sundays and holidays. Never mind the long weekends so government can get that extra day. Close on the day the holiday falls on.
The young people don’t know what the holidays are as it is. They just know it’s a day off. I think lots of parents don’t teach the children what holidays represent.
Do they even sit at the table for a meal? No, they sit in front of the TV with no communication. Is that the way to live?
The world would be a better place if there was more communication. Take away the cell phones, tablets and whatever and talk to each other. Get to know your family, and how they feel.
Bring back the holidays on the day they were meant to be.
