WATERVILLE (AP) — State police divers have searched a stretch of the Kennebec River in Waterville for evidence related to a Vassalboro homicide two weeks ago.

State police called Monday’s search downtown near the Two-Cent Bridge successful, but wouldn’t say what they found or what they were looking for.

They tell the Morning Sentinel the search was connected to the Nov. 21 death of 69-year-old Thomas Namer, of Waterville.

A 30-year-old Vassalboro man has been charged in connection with the death. That man may have been on or near the foot bridge within hours of the killing.

The suspect told police that he had known Namer for a long time and Namer had sexually molested him as a child.
